Strong B.A.N.D.S. Brunssum – May 2021

Brunssum Story Walk
Date: 1 May – 31 May
Location: In front of the Brunssum Commissary and PX

Join the Brunssum Library for an amazing story walk where you will follow along in a story trail and learn something new while being outside with your family! Look for the story pictures placed in trail starting in the grassy area out in front of the Commissary and PX Building 8 on Brunssum. Please observe 2 meter physical distancing standards set by the Dutch Government and USAG Benelux.

Bike Ride for Mental Health
Date: Friday 7 May
Times: 3-5pm
Location: Starts in front of the Brunssum HUB
Price: Free to ride. $10 to rent a bike from ODR

ACS and the HUB are teaming up to offer a relaxing and fun bike ride which is sure to boost your mental health. Come out and help us celebrate Mental Health Awareness. If you need a bike, it is highly recommended to rent your bike ahead of time through the HUB front desk at +31 455 34 0232, as inventory is limited. All safety mitigation measures and group size restrictions will be followed.

Cooper Fitness Test
Date: Saturday 15 May
Times: 10am-12pm
Location: JFC Brunssum Sports Field Track
Price: Free!

Bring the family! This is going to be great fun! Come find out how you shape up!! The Cooper test is a test of physical fitness. It was designed by Kenneth H. Cooper in 1968 for U.S. military use. In the original form, the point of the test is to run as far as possible within 12 minutes. (The outcome is based on the distance the test person ran, their age and their sex.) You must pre-register to attend by calling the front desk at the HUB at least one hour prior to the event. If you have any questions or need directions to the track, please call the HUB Front Desk at +31 455 34 0232. All safety mitigation measures and group size restrictions will be followed.

Cooking for Immunity
Date: Thursday 20 May
Times: 3-4pm

With the COVID 19 Pandemic still effecting us it's time to give your body a little extra protection. Find out how you can boost your immunity at our STRONG B.A.N.D.S. online cooking class! Just tune in on Brunssum MWR Facebook page at 3pm on May 20th for some great cooking tips!

Mala Making Workshop
Date: Saturday 29 May
Times: 2-5pm
Location: The HUB @ Brunssum
Price: $40 (includes all supplies)

This will be a beginner’s journey into the beautiful world of malas. A mala is a garland of beads used to together with a mantra, typically composed of 108 beads, and worn around the neck or wrist. Japa malas are ancient tools which have been used for 5000 years to help and support the mind during meditation. When you first string your new mala, it is simply a string of beads. We will clean and prepare the mala with a personal intention. This practice will make it ready for use as a meditative tool. You must pre-register for this class at the HUB Front desk for my following the link on brunssum.armymwr.com.
